Coming straight off the bat from my last post about Cut Records, after I had worked my way through most of their extensive back catalogue, I did my usual of heading over to Last.fm and typing in a few of their artists to find some similar sounds. Martin Nonstatic was one name that kept cropping up over and over. Born in the Netherlands and now residing in Germany, Martin has moved away from live performances with synth hardware and drum machines to concentrate on more studio based productions with his deep dubby atmospheric soundscapes with sublimely subtle techno beats.

Martin Nonstatic – Granite

Inspired by natural rocks these twelve-tracks have smooth catchy drifts, hypnotic melodies and waves of subtle beats that contrast with lush soundscapes. Spiced-up with a blend of deep techno/house, dub and downtempo, enhanced clean-cut electronic rhythms and soothing rolling bass lines. Granite is Martin’s third album following releases on Bine Music and Silent Season and is out now on Ultimae Records as a standard download from their bandcamp page or as a higher quality lossless 24bit download. Granite is already being talked about as being ‘his finest moment’ A great find!

Whilst finding this great album I also stumbled across a compilation put together by Martin Nonstatic and Frank Sebastian called Echogarden. Set up by Martin as a small side project of releasing more artists that live and breathe deep dub techno. The compilation was set out as a competition with people being tasked to produce tracks that “would fit to a big garden full of echos” Then selected out 15 of the sweetest sounds, collectively mastered and…these were the winners: (free download!)

Echogarden – Compilation Vol1.
